Grassroots Democrats Hosts Compliance and Finance Strategy Workshop

Body:

Updates on Compliance Law and Techniques Highlighted

For three days in Colorado, finance and compliance leaders from 34 state parties met to discuss best practices and the latest challenges and latest developments in federal election law. This conference was born from the idea that compliance and fundraising should be addressed in a way that recognizes their interdependence and their distinct requirements and strategies.

Historically, these two departments have been isolated from each other when training new staff or planning for the future of the party; when we discuss one, we rarely touch on the other. By bringing them together we addressed the legal and logistical questions that arose because they were considered together. And, by addressing these issues now, we build stronger state parties.
State parties shared their wide range of campaign and compliance experience in extremely informative and practical discussions. All present agreed that the workshop helped them learn more about compliance rules and procedures and alerted them to new rules recently adopted or now being considered by the FEC, many of which are likely to change the face of reporting in this election cycle.

With the close of this conference Grassroots Democrats has already hit the ground running to prepare for our next conference in late June. Working in coordination with NCEC, Grassroots Democrats will focus on using this critical data more effectively for field targeting, online organizing and fundraising. We look forward to bringing more of this information to you in the upcoming weeks.

As always, you can help fund these conferences and our programmatic work with individual states by contributing on our website.
