Amy Chapman - Executive Director

As Executive Director of Grassroots Democrats, Amy Chapman comes to the organization with over 20 years of experience in all facets of Democratic politics. She is a seasoned political strategist specializing in campaign management, coordinated campaigns, field programs, labor and constituency group outreach. Amy has extensive experience managing all levels of Democratic campaigns, including many local and state races in her native state of New Jersey, and in both federal and non-federal races throughout the country, from presidential to senate, and gubernatorial. Amy managed Senator Ron Wyden,s (D-OR) successful 1995 special election campaign, the Michigan Coordinated Campaign for Clinton/Gore in 1996, Kitzhaber for Governor of Oregon in 1994, and was Oregon State Director for Clinton/Gore in 1992.

Amy,s political experience goes far beyond campaigns, with an expansive background in union organizing and work with a variety of other progressive organizations. From 2002 until coming to lead Grassroots Democrats, Amy served as Midwest Political Director for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). She led the Democratic National Committee,s state legislative redistricting project in 2001; and served as the Political Campaign Director for the AFL-CIO from 1997 to 2001.

Amy has used her skills and expansive political knowledge to train thousands of Democratic political activists through her work with various progressive organizations such as EMILY,s List, Participation 2000, and the George Washington University and American University Training Institutes, among many others. Amy has been awarded the Eleanor Roosevelt award from the DNC,s Women Vote Center and the WIN Women of Achievement honor. Amy holds a BA in Politics and Journalism from New York University.
