The 2002 McCain-Feingold campaign finance law imposed on state and local party committees created complicated and burdensome rules about raising and spending non-federal ("soft") money for voter registration, get-out-the-vote efforts, voter identification and even party-promotional messages - - even in states that don't limit these activities.
Grassroots Democrats is committed to working with state parties to ensure they operate effectively under the new restrictions. In addition we conduct regular conferences to keep state parties updated on additional changes as the law continues to evolve. These conferences also serve as a forum to sharpen compliance skills and discuss best practices for compliance with the law. We also help states with specific compliance problems by providing resources or staff assistance.
